Step into the formative years of Islamic history with this third part of our Islamic and World History Curriculum. This book takes young learners on a journey through the era of the Rashidun Caliphate, the period following the passing of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when Islam was led by four of his closest companions: Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, Umar ibn al-Khattab, Uthman ibn Affan, and Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them all). Each caliph’s life, family, values and leadership style are explored, helping children understand how they governed with justice and strengthened the message of Islam.
Students will follow the incredible expansion of the Islamic Caliphate during this period, learning about the conquests of key cities such as Jerusalem, Homs, Tripoli and Antakya, as well as regions including Egypt, Cyprus and Armenia. Important historical events are brought to life, including the Ridda Wars and the Battles of Yamamah, Yarmouk, the Chains, and Qadisiyah, giving learners a sense of the challenges and triumphs of early Muslims.
Geography and world history are integrated to provide context, exploring the lands around the Mediterranean, the rivers of Jordan, Tigris and Euphrates, and the powerful empires of Rome, Byzantium, and Persia. One of the highlights of the book is the careful collection and compilation of the Qur’an, a story that teaches both faith and meticulous preservation of knowledge.
