Earthquakes: Our Signs

We seem to be hearing about and seeing more and more of earthquakes and their paths of destruction and devastation. With major damage being caused to infrastructure coupled with enormous losses of life, inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon. We not only take you through the science of earthquakes but also understand that they are not only a sign of Allah’s Might and Power, but also His love for us.

In this unit, we cover:

• Tectonic plates

• Types of movement around plate boundaries

• Layers of the earth

• Effects of earthquakes

• A Muslim’s response to earthquakes and other natural disasters

• The shaheed; who they are and their blessings

• Tsunamis

• Occurrences of earthquakes

• Measuring earthquakes

• Activities include: Mapping earthquakes, layers of the earth art/craft, tectonic plates jigsaw puzzle, DIY seismograph and more.
  
  This unit is best suited for primary school aged children from 6-12.
